Woodworkers Workbench - A Specialty In Itself

A woodworker’s workbench is not a table; it is a work holding system. It is used to hold pieces while they are being worked on by other tools. This unit is built to accommodate a number of different woodworking mechanisms like bench dogs, planning stops, hold fasts or board jacks and will have various vises. They are available in many different styles depending on the type of work to be done and the craftsman’s way of working. Two of the common features that they share:

1. They are heavy and rigid enough to keep steady while the wood is being worked.
2. There is some method for holding the work in place at a comfortable height and position so that the worker’s hands are free to hold the tools.
How the work is held in position is one of the distinguishing factors between these benches and most have more than one way to do this.

If you need a woodworker’s workbench you have two options. You can buy one or build one yourself. If you decide to build one then you will need a good plan which you can purchase online or in a wood specialty or home improvement store. You may even find some free ones on the internet.

Some models to consider are:

Jacobsen Workbench – It is constructed entirely of durable, solid hardwood and hot glued under high pressure for maximum durability. The hardware used it all top quality and heavy duty. There are two size options – The Standard size has more than 7 feet of workspace and comes with a 7 inch quick release front vise. The Large size has over 10 feet of workspace and comes with a 9 inch quick release front vise. Both the options have a built-in tail vise.

Features:

Fingerjointed rubberwood
Two kinds of vises
Multiple dog holes that work with front and end vises
Storage shelf for materials and equipment
Heavy duty hardware
Extra holes for use with board jacks and hold down clamps
Mortise and tenon leg joints

You could also check a new model created by Garrett Hack. He is said to be one of the best woodworkers in the country. His piece will definitely appeal to hand tool focused woodworkers.

If you need some additional storage space for your tools and equipment be sure to check Sjobergs Woodworker Workbench Cupboard. It has two sliding doors for bulk storage and four drawers for additional organization. The Sjobergs name is one that speaks for itself and you can rest assured that you will get a quality item.

Whether you decide to DIY or buy you must consider your needs carefully and then make a decision.

Backless garden benches usually have the lower points of their seats directly in the centre so that one can be allowed to enjoy an open view in all directions without any obstruction.
